Steenbok Hunts in South Africa

Bushmen Safaris has been providing quality bow hunting as an archery-only area since 1986 and we are pleased to offer an outstanding selection of animals for our hunters including the Steenbok.

Steenbok (pronounced with a long i, ste-inbok) are beautiful little antelope that appear widely on the open plains, and are not fond of the thick forest, mountains, or desert regions. Steenbok typically weigh around 20 pounds and stand about 20″ tall at the shoulder. They often have an orange or light brown colored coat. Their bellies and the area around their eyes are white and their horns are straight and very sharp, smooth, slightly curved forwards and having narrow ridges. Only the males carry the very upright horns and they are largely solitary, only found with the ewes when in heat.

Since they are so small, Steenbok are almost exclusively low-level browsing animals, though they will occasionally eat freshly sprouted grass. They get the majority of their water from their food, so they do not need to drink water to survive. And like many of the other antelope species, the Steenbok are most active during the morning and evening hours and tend to be nocturnal.
